Scratch that, that was JCP&L not NJNG. I really could use some coffee this morning. Didn’t get nearly enough sleep last night.

Just finished paying all utilities. How that was ~$700 is frightening. At least NJNG answered quickly when I called to have login reset.

Since ping.fm ate this twice I’ll repeat: NJ utilities are insane. Can’t pay water online or over phone w/ cc or check, have to mail it in

GGing ping.fm for totally not sending the first message and only the second one

And NJNG gives options of making deferred payments & seeing payment history but not making a payment NOW from w/in my account screen online

Earlier this year I got a new car. Not new, but new to me. This car runs well enough and has features my last car didn’t such as power windows and cruise control. It’s also a V6 to my last cars 4-cylinder and gas mileage is within only a few mpg difference. Really, I am very, very happy with this car and genuinely enjoy driving it. Except for one thing.

This car doesn’t have a CD player in it and it’s lacking the aux-input my last car did. No CDs and no iPod. Since the beginning of the year I’ve been stuck with the radio. This has become a problem for me as I drive ~75 minutes each way to work and home. Most of my drive has the radio on scan and once in a while I find something worth staying at. I’ve realized I need an XM/Sirius radio and/or an iPod hookup.

I’ve also realized I strongly dislike radio commercials. As the love of my life says “…it’s not for me.” And it truly is not for me, in fact, it feels like a very one-sided relationship. I can’t bring a single example to mind of a radio commercial that didn’t leave me feeling as though I got nothing out of the ~30 seconds I gave to them.

Commercials tell me to take an action but never give me anything in return for it. Saving money is not giving me something in return. To save that money I’ve had to go and spend money I may not have spent otherwise. The commercial ends and I feel as though I’ve lost. You’ve won my time (though not my business) and I’ve won nothing in exchange for it. I want a commercial to end and I want to think “thank you” afterwards. Give me something. Make yourselves worth my time and do so by giving me something of benefit in exchange for my time.

I have ideas on how I’d change commercials, but I think I’d rather just skip them entirely and listen to XM/Sirius/my iPod. It’s just a shame companies mismanage and waste so much of their money on poorly constructed radio commercials.
